Debra J. Guzov

As co-founder of Guzov Ofsink, head of our commercial litigation, arbitration, and mediation practice, and co-head of our international practice, Debra Guzov's focus is major, multi-party litigation, from inception through trial, in the New York and New Jersey State and Federal Courts in a wide variety of complex commercial matters. She is also experienced in estate litigation. Because of her diverse litigation experience, Debra is a valuable resource to clients and is in a unique position to help them practice litigation avoidance. She frequently assists businesses as an outside general counsel, strategizing, negotiating, and drafting licensing, distribution, operating, shareholder, and employment agreements.

Debra’s clients – both individuals and companies – cover a wide range of industries, including financial services, entertainment, music, investment, software, brokerage, apparel, banking, real estate, investor relations, pharmaceutical, scientific research, and aeronautics.

An experienced appellate practitioner, Debra has represented clients in both State and Federal appellate courts.

Debra maintains an active alternative dispute resolution practice, regularly conducting arbitration and mediation for clients before the AAA, the NASD and the NYSE, as well as through the Southern District Mediation Program and the New York State Supreme Court Commercial Division Mediation Program. She frequently represents clients before administrative bodies and in NASD investigations.

With prior international law firm experience, Debra understands the complexities of international litigation and arbitration, including the procedures for the taking of evidence abroad, the prosecution and defense of lawsuits before international tribunals, the Hague Convention, and the seizure of assets located abroad.  Debra regularly writes and speaks on a variety of legal topics.

“Sometimes our most valuable contribution is helping clients avoid litigation.  It’s our experience that allows us to evaluate and advise on the best route for a client to take.”
